The American Office
February 13, 2005

This is a sin. A huge sin. A disgrace. NBC is doing an American version of the BBC's masterpiece, The Office.

It going to be impossible to capture the brillance of The Office and package it for American TV. The hardest thing will be capturing the acting that makes the characters seem very real.

My prediction, it's going to be shity and cancelled like the other British comedy they tried to bring to American TV - Coupling. American versions of Garreth, Tim, Dawn and David should not even be attempted. Also, the dialogue is really going to suffer because there won't be any swearing. The FCC won't stand for it.

Will I watch. Yes.

Comments

Is it going to be an exact copy of the British Office, with the same characters, or just the same idea? Either way the show will not be able to capture the humour of the original Office.

A little side note: If you like the Office then check out Shaun of the Dead. Both Dawn and Tim from the Office are in the movie and it's funny as hell.

Is that guy in the picture Luke Wilson?

American TV has a habit of "prettying-up" characters in shows they try to remake, which is a big reason for all their failures. American TV needs more ugs.

So, did you watch?

It looks like it may have been cancelled. I haven't seen the show listed in the TV Guide for weeks.
